Exeter R.O.H. & Wessex Assembly at Poole

posted 25 Jul 2011, 05:01 by David j. Moore   [ updated 25 Jul 2011, 05:07 ]

The Exeter ROH Assembly have just had the pleasure of visiting the Wessex ROH Assembly and this was the second event that the two Assemblies have shared. The first one was when the Wessex ROH Assembly came to Exeter, and after the Assembly Meeting, had the pleasure of a boat trip from Exmouth to Topsham which included indulging in the famous cream tea on the boat.

The second was on Saturday, 23rd. July, when the Exeter ROH Assembly visited Wessex at Poole in Dorset and once again a great time was had by all. Wessex laid on a boat trip around Poole Harbour. Everyone enjoyed the trip which included a commentary on the islands in the Harbour, which includes Brown Sea Island, owned by the National Trust which is a sanctuary for the red squirrel, and incidentally the site of the first Boy Scout camp early in the 20th. Century, hosted by the founder Baden-Powell himself. After the boat trip we had a Hog Roast and what a fantastic end to a wonderful day.

We hope that Exeter and Wessex can continue these mutual visits next year in 2012 and extend an open invitation to any other ROH Assembly that would like to join us on these very enjoyable excursions.

Rattenbury Lodge 6721

posted 4 Nov 2010, 03:28 by David j. Moore

On Wednesday, 27th. October, the Brothers of the Ye Rose of Devon Lodge No. 7899 did forgo their own Lodge night in order to pay a Regalia visit to the Rattenbury Lodge in Beer, East Devon to attend the presentation of the Third Degree Emblems to Brother John Luttjeboer KOM and Bro. Peter Spencer KOM.

Although Bro. David Moore ROH had Raised these two Brothers to the Third Degree, he stood down in favour of Bro. Norman York ROH GP 2004, Grand Treasurer, so that these two Brothers would have the honour of a Grand Primo of his year carrying out the Ceremony and indeed signed their Emblems.

It was an excellent Ceremony, and rounded off by the famous Rattenbury food which always incorporates delicious crab sandwiches, the envy of the Province. To round it off, the Absent Brethren Toast was, as ever, ended with their usual lusty rendition of the seamans’ “Eternal Father”, the beloved hymn of seaside Lodges. (Full version).

While in Devon, Bro. Norman, and his lady Josie, stayed with Mrs. Sheila Darbyshire, the widow of the greatly missed still, Brother Roy Derbyshire ROH,
G. A. B. of his year. Further to this, he was also the Guest of Honour at the P.G. P’s. Bro. Allan Hewitt KOM Dinner on Saturday, 30th. October, with his lady, Josie.
A very enjoyable week all in all, and greatly enhanced by seeing Bro. Norman and Josie looking so well and obviously enjoying the Devonshire countryside and beaches on their many excursions with Bro. David Moore ROH and his lady Janet..

P.G.L. Dinner 2010

On the evening of Saturday the 30/10/2010, the Exeter Provincial Grand Primo, Brother Allan Hewitt K.O.M. held his Dinner. The venue had to be changed at the last minute due to the Landlady suffering a heart attack and was rushed to Hospital where she subsequently underwent emergency surgery. May we wish her both a speedy recovery and return home to The Barge at Halberton.

Thanks are due to Brother Nick Miller R.O.H for arranging the change of venue with only days to go which was at the Merrymead, Sampford Peverell. May we thank all the staff for their welcome, and the excellent meal that they provided.

The Guest of Honour was Brother Norman York R.O.H, Grand Primo 2004, accompanied by his Lady Josie. The P.G.P’s. Appeal is for DIRECT, Exeter. [Diabetic Research] for which was raised in excess of £300 by  the Members that attended.

We wish to register our thanks to all who attended..
